U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan Out, Regrets Tommy Chong Plea

Pittsburgh U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan is officially out of office. Her one regret: Accepting a plea deal from Tommy Chong. I take that to mean she's sorry she didn't force him to trial so she could have slammed him with more than 9 months for selling bongs on the internet.

She made no secret that she wanted President Obama to keep her in office. Good for him for declining. Her chief legacy will be Tommy Chong, who, via Celeb Stoner, responded:

"I'm honored to be Mary Beth's only regret. Now does she regret going after me? Or does she regret that I never got enough time? I tend to think she wishes she'd never heard my name. I have become her legacy. Mary Beth Loose Cannon is now looking for a job. She blew her last job busting me. Karma is so sweet! She's looking for a work while Cheech and I start our second multi-million dollar tour thanks to the publicity she created for us! Thank you Mary Beth - may you find peace and happiness in your search for your soul."

Another over-the top prosecution (and failure): That of Cyril Wecht.

Tommy Chong: Biden Authored Bill that Put Him in Jail

Tommy Chong, a TalkLeft favorite, had this to say to the Washington Post about Joe Biden:

"Check out the people you're voting for.... "For instance, Joseph Biden comes off as a liberal Democrat, but he's the one who authored the bill that put me in jail. He wrote the law against shipping drug paraphernalia through the mail - which could be anything from a pipe to a clip or cigarette papers."

Conservative reporter Stacy McCain, recalls Hunter S. Thompsons's words on McGovern's selection of Tom Eagleton from Fear and Loathing:

Cheech and Chong to Reunite for Comedy Tour

Resolving a 25 year inability to just get along, Cheech and Chong, recognizing they aren't getting any younger, are going to reunite and go on tour with a comedy show, called "Hey, What's That Smell?" Details will be announced this afternoon.

Says Cheech Marin:

Marin said he thinks dope humor can be as funny today as it was back in the '70s.

"I think it's time for a revival of dope jokes. It's a much bigger audience now, it's much more widespread and institutionalized," he said in an interview earlier this month.

I hope someone books them for Denver the week of the Convention. The Dems could use some prodding about the need to reform our marijuana laws.

Here's my 90 second video interview of Tommy Chong at Owl Farm last year, with Jimmy Ibbotson (formerly of the Nitty Gritty Dirt band) singing in the background.)
