Congress Deleted Free PACER From Spending Bill, OKs Solar Aid to Mexico

This is like a joke. A $1.66 trillion spending measure was unveiled on Tuesday. It deletes the provision that would have provided the public with free access to federal court records. While Mexico announces the U.S. has agreed to provide it low-interest loans to invest in solar energy.

I spend hundreds of dollars a month on PACER, much of which is to ensure my historical and present facts are correct in writing TalkLeft. I use Lexis for my law practice. Public records are public and should be retrievable by all of us at no cost. (Colorado's efiling system is even worse -- it costs $15.00 just to look at a particular case docket if you aren't counsel of record.)

Joe Biden needs to turn around his thinking cap and stop the endless money going around the world, especially for war and the war on drugs. People here are in need as well, of everything from more pay to teachers, more access to health care and taking better care of our senior citizens.

Please Joe Biden, don't run again. Your noggin' just can't do this. We don't need a country run by your surrogates. We should have a real leader..

Joe Biden's term thus far has been a presidency of consequence. Let's not blind ourselves to the fact that he inherited a real f*cking mess from Trump, topped off by the $h!+storm that was Jan. 6. It's taken a herculean effort just to right our ship of state and set it back on course.

Let's also not pretend that we're approaching anything close to a return to politics as we once knew it. There was a time when, not too long ago, if we saw a Republican elected president we could at least be secure in the knowledge that he would likely govern competently and wouldn't just blow the place up all to hell. That's clearly not the case anymore.

The Republican Party is obviously in the grips of right-wing radical extremists who are hellbent on establishing a white nationalist autocracy. There is also a very real possibility that the GOP itself may not survive its internal turmoil and instead implode, and who knows what may arise in its place should that happen.

If we've learned anything from this recent near-miss for our democracy, it's that there is no such thing as American exceptionalism and further, we are not omnipotent. We came perilously close to reliving Argentina's experience with the volatile and bloody domestic politics of Juan Peron.

That it didn't happen certainly wasn't due to the resilience of our democratic institutions, Rather, it was because there were just enough thinking and functional Americans who were determined to hold the line against a right-wing fascist onslaught, and who marched to the polls in the last three elections to ensure that it didn't occur.

Joe Biden has been a steady hand at the tiller during some extraordinarily turbulent times. For sure, he's not a flashy or flamboyant leader but then again, this ain't "Dancing with the Stars." Speaking as someone who's been a longtime critic of Biden in the past, I think he's done a pretty magnificent job, all things considered.

Two years after the end of a serious political error that nearly cost us our democracy, we've gotten through the pandemic, the economy's turned around, people are back to work and best of all, Biden's predecessor in office is about to be held to criminal account for the damage he inflicted on our country. In the immortal words of Fred Sanford, that ain't chump change.

We need to remain incredibly sober and vigilant about where we are right now, and not allow our political decision making to devolve back to the retrograde pop culture-driven mess that saddled us with a vainglorious reality show star as head of state and propelled us into our present difficulties in the first place.

    Aloha.

.. incredibly successful administration so far, despite having a razor-thin House majority, a split Senate and a host of economic issues caused by the pandemic.  I get the importance of access to public records, but this is not Biden's doing and frankly it should be waaaaaay down on the list of priorities.  This is worse than when Republicans pretend he's not actually the POTUS and blame him for gas prices, inflation, etc.

Biden does not run for re-election, Ron DeSantis or DJT will be our next president.

Very difficult to foresee the ultimate result of the U.S. poring money into defense of Ukraine. What will be left.

Mexico. Totally corrupt government. Waste of our tax dollars.

... to see people refrain from speculating about the next U.S. election, given that we are just six weeks removed from the last one and the new Congress has yet to be sworn in.

Speaking for myself only, I believe it serves no useful purpose to speculate who should be elected president two years from now, when so much could happen and change between now and then to render such opinions quaint, irrelevant and even laughable.

Have a joyous holiday weekend, RickyJim.
