Colorado Hits $1 Billion in Marijuana Tax Revenue

It took only five years for Colorado to take in $1 billion in tax revenue from legal marijuana.

According to the DOR, the state currently has 2,917 licensed marijuana businesses and 41,076 individuals who are licensed to work in the industry. In a statement announcing the new tax milestone, Governor Jared Polis wanted to make sure that growth continued as more states legalize marijuana for medical and recreational purposes.

I am so glad that Jared Polis is our new governor.

    and his enabling of the anti vaccine nut jobs.

    They are a clear threat to public health. There should be no exceptions except for medical ones.

    has legalized marijuana for recreational use, Missouri law enforcement has it's panties in a wad.

    over the prospect of increased revenue and seizures. Be warned if you're going to Iowa from the Land of Lincoln!

    We Coloradans have to have bring our A game if we're driving out of state with even a gram in the car. Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma  - we're surrounded by states without legal pot - and cops who profile anyone with Colorado plates.

    The new Illinois laws are interesting because they require "reparations" - giving those from areas most affected by the war on drugs a leg up on entry to the very lucrative pot industry as well as putting tax revenues back into those communities.

    Not to mention expunging the criminal records of some 800,000 people.

    Legalizing and taxing sex workers would generate lots of revenue too!
