Denver Votes to Legitimize 'Shrooms

Denver is the first city in the U.S. to effectively legitimize psilocybin mushrooms. By a slim 2,000 vote margin, voters yesterday passed Ordinance 301:

A "yes" vote was a vote in favor of making the adult possession and use of psilocybin mushrooms the lowest law enforcement priority in Denver and prohibiting the city from spending resources on enforcing related penalties.

Proponents of more lenient criminal enforcement of psilocybin cite studies indicating that the drug can be beneficial for treating depression and anxiety among cancer patients. Other studies have identified potential uses in therapy for alcoholics and people trying to quit smoking, and in treating depression in people who do not have cancer.

The full text of the iniative is here.

The measure was supported by Colorado's Libertarian Party and Denver's Green Party.

Psilocybin remains illegal under federal law which designates it a Schedule I Controlled Substance. (See page 15 of 17 here)

... the hardest thing about growing mushroom is finding a reliable source of spores...

Long overdue for our species to rediscover and reaffirm an ancient path to wisdom and mental/medical/spiritual healing that we have ignored and/or demonized to our detriment for too long.

As rocky a start as we've had to the 21st century, the growing acceptance of cannabis and psychedelics is one of the very bright sides.  Future generations will look back at the 20th century as a very cold cruel dark age in this regard.

For me, not sure about shrooms being a path (5.00 / 1) (#4)

to wisdom or healing, but I do know that being outside on a beautiful sunny day skiing down a mountain side after ingesting a couple puts a smile on my face that can't be erased.

    Bravo Denver!

That you can ski on shrooms.  I love skiing and I loved shrooms but I can't imagine combining the two successfully.

Personally they are my favorite drug I can  never do again because my stomach just can't take it anymore and 6 hours of an amazing day is not worth the 48 hours of puking that follows.

Beautiful day, stunning scenery, locking into the rhythm on the skis.

Not a huge fan of shrooms after dark, etc.

is evidence of your wisdom, my friend.

"Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong."

that everything I know/believe is right :-). I have never tried your favorite herb or any kind of psychedelic for that matter.
I am considering buying some CBD oil for my dog. A step in the right direction?!
