Mick Jagger Love Letters Headed to Auction

Marsha Hunt, the mother of Mick Jagger's first child, Karis, is broke and has decided to let Southby auction 10 of his love letters to her written in 1969. Jagger was in Australia filming Ned Kelly at the time, and it's also where he wrote Brown Sugar. Hunt was the inspiration for Brown Sugar, and a star in her own right.

The letters will be sold as one lot at Sotheby's on 12 December and carry an estimate of £70,000-£100,000. Hunt said if she hadn't been hard up she would have happily offered them to have a public institution but she hopes the letters will correct some of the misinformation there has been about Jagger and that time. Hunt says:

"The letters speak for Mick at an incredible juncture of our lives. The summer of 69 was the end of a whole era of revolutionary spirit – we didn't know it was about to die. And who knew that this group of boys making music would 50 years on be still celebrated as a voice of the period?"

She definitely sounds a tad depressed.

"The sale is important. Someone, I hope, will buy those letters as our generation is dying and with us will go the reality of who we were and what life was."

Then again, she's had a rough go of it, from breast cancer to her economic troubles. Here she is in the 60's and in 2008. Here's Mick, Marsha and Karis in 2005 at Karis' wedding.

For a change of mood after reading this article, here's Bryan Adams and Summer of '69 . The song is still being performed, even Taylor Swift and One Direction have a version.

Here's a picture of Mick's signature on one of Hunt's letters.

So how much is signed Stones' memorabilia worth?

Here's a signed poster I have had since the 60's with Mick, Keith, Charlie, Bill and Brian Jones (bigger photo here.):

Any takers? I didn't think so.

Here's a recap of the summer of 1969.

On November 15, HBO will air Crossfire Hurricane, a documentary about the Rolling Stones from 1962 to 1978.

The Stones have started their 50th anniversary tour. They will be playing in Newark, NJ Dec. 13 and 15. If you can't get tickets, you can watch the Dec. 15 show live on Pay Per View.

may be the best Stones cut ever for dancing.  Never knew who the woman in question was before.  Fascinating story.  I hope she fares better now; too bad Mick didn't set her up for life, as he might have, or might still. I assume he did so for their daughter.

Although I wouldn't go as far as saying it is Exile on Main type stuff as some are, it is pretty good.

Yes, a little chilly here.  Wet snow yesterday--not good on my previously frost bitten hands.  They were screaming a bit.  No snow so far today, just windy and cool.
