I'm preparing for a court hearing tomorrow. I'm sure there was some news today, but I haven't seen it.

    did anything memorable happen? None of my favorites were up for major awards.

    did a good job. His opening song was amusing and I loved the show actually moved along at a nice pace.

    Frank Rich mentions race as one of the motivating factors in the words and actions of Beck and Wilson. Could be.
    But why do these people get attention and traction among many in the general population?

    RIch gives what I think is a good answer:

    "The potential dividends to be gained at the end of the protracted health care debate also remain, for now, an abstraction to many who have lost and are continuing to lose their jobs, their savings and their homes.

    Nor has Obama succeeded in persuading critics on the left or right that he will do as much for those Americans who are suffering as he has for the corporations his administration and his predecessor's rushed to rescue."

    Many, including me, feel alienated by this administration because of it's lack of concern for those among us who are hurting. If Obama and his coterie were capable of expressing true concern and capable of mounting tireless efforts to help those in need his popularity would soar and it wouldn't matter what Beck has to say.

    But a citizenry that feels alienated and abused is ripe fodder for fascism.

    Obama and Paterson (Awkward Hugs) (none / 0) (#7)

    The president just arrived at Albany (NY) airport and was met on the tarmac by 'local dignitaries', notably Governor David Paterson who lagged behind the others as they walked out to greet Air Force One. Paterson, not surprisingly, I suppose, looked very uncomfortable being there, his body language reminded me of a moody teenager kind of visiting a relative because his parents are making him.

    Obama bounded off the plane and leaned in to hug Paterson who did not exactly participate in the embrace. Obama spoke at some length to Paterson before moving on to Congressman Murphy and the Albany mayor. Then he doubled back to Paterson and leaned in and spoke again. Paterson continued looking like "Get me the bleep outta here!"

    I keep wanting to believe we are not a provincial backwater but the excited buzz universally on the five local tv stations was about 3 story 'flying bunker' Air Force 1. What a BIG plane! ::SIGH::
