Golden Globes: Women in Black

The Golden Globes are on. There is not much point in a red carpet when everyone is wearing black, so the show dyed the carpet black.

I felt sorry for some of the foreign male winners who had to give a speech and had no stories of mistreatment to share. It sounds oddly out of place when someone simply says "I'd like to thank my wife and kids."

Is anyone watching the show?

I think "The Post" is going to win. Hollywood may be changing, but power is power and Spielberg and Streep are a tough duo to beat.

    Was when James Franco brought the odd guy who made The Room up on the stage when he won (and beat out my guy from GET OUT) for Disaster Artist and then physically blocked him from talking and grabbed the Mic.

    Then the poor seemed to be blocked from going back stage and had to go back to his seat.

    Poor schlub, you are here as a punchline and you were dumb enough to come.

    I have never seen The ROom but  now intend to.

    didn't work for me.  Felt like a Cohen Bros movie gone wrong.  The scenes with John Hawkes (who I'm a big fan of) and his girlfriend seemed out of place, like they were from another, film.  

    Good to see Laura Dern win for Big Little Lies.  Didn't like her in Last Jedi or Twin Peaks but she was solid in this.   Happy for Ewan McGreggor's win as well.

    I guess I was expecting better. The parts that were supposed to be funny didn't land for me next to the jarring violence. It was all a little off. And to me McDormand was basically Olive Kittridge goes to Missouri. I've already seen her do that character, with better writing. Obviously mine is not the majority opinion at least among these voters.

    One thing that did surprise me - I've seen just about everything John Hawkes is in and I never recognize him until I see the credits. Spend the whole movie going - who IS that guy, he's great!

    and McDormand was good but we've seen her do that before.  I would have preferred more drama, less dark comedy.

    show was a little less than electrifying...a low budget Oscar.  I like Seth Meyers, but he was not as clever as he can be on any of his late night shows. While the men wore black, not too many award presenters or recipients spoke eloquently to the theme of the evening....that is important to hear about from men and to instill in the minds of little boys.  Besides the rousing acceptance speech by Oprah Winfrey, the highlight of the evening was the creative and blingy updates to a wardrobe associated with Mary Todd Lincoln.
