London Bridge is Latest Attack Target

Three men in white van drove into passerbys at the London Bridge. London Bridge station has been shut down.

A second incident was reported at nearby Borough Market, where some men jumped out of a car and started randomly stabbing people.

Police say shots were fired and there is at least one fatality. A third incident (as yet undefined) occurred at the Vauxhall area of south London. London police say that was a stabbing but is unrelated to the first two incidents.

Here is the London police twitter feed. BBC is updating here. Here's a map.

The Daily Mail now has auto-play video. Buzzfeed for some reason includes in its news article what Donald Trump tweeted about this. Who cares? It has nothing to do with him. No links for either.

was NBC News on Twitter, posting that it would not retweet a presidential retweet on the London incidents, because NBC could not confirm that the information was accurate.

Trump was retweeting . . . the Drudge Report.

And then, he tweeted that the incidents show the need for his travel ban.  Uh, no, the UK is not under the ban in his own d@mn executive order.

How bad is it, when news outlets refuse to use information from the president, because his reputation for "alternative facts" is so bad?

any more than is its fellow crazy sister Breitbart. At best, both are willing conduits for a steady stream right-wing nonsense. At worst, they are wholly representative of the most lamentable and deplorable elements of modern American politics.

You have never seen a news outlet downplay a competitors scoop?

FOX News has taken this to the extreme.  The network is unaware of any issues regarding Russia and the White House, despite the fact that these events dominate the news cycle.

Now to keep on topic, Drudge is an insult to patriotism and  intelligence, and NBC is justified in ignoring him/her/it.

    No, we don't. (5.00 / 3) (#10)

But we have a lot more guns than Manchester, so we generally believe that we're safer -- that is, until there's an argument in our house, and we suddenly find ourselves facing the business end of one of those firearms we own and cherish, now being brandished by an angry family member or roommate.

In this year alone in the United States, 6,427 Americans have thus far been killed as a result of gun violence, and another 12,643 have been wounded. Of those numbers, 1,614 of those were children ages 17 and younger. And 92 of those deaths occurred in the last 72 hours.

Having lost my own father as a result of an act of terrorism in downtown Saigon during the Vietnam War, I think that I possess sufficient enough standing to say that we are our own worst enemies. And while I don't mean to minimize the threat posed by foreign terrorists, I believe that we'd likely be far better off -- and safer -- over the long term, were we to engage in some serious efforts to mitigate and reduce our own home-grown carnage.

Instead, we're allowing ourselves to be repeatedly scared schittless by the prospect of terror abroad, while ignoring the very real and everyday threats we face from people just like us, who reside within our own communities.

If we can't even be honest with ourselves about a serious problem that has cost over 280,000 U.S. residents their lives over the last ten years, what makes us think that our efforts to suppress terror abroad will have any meaningful effect?

    Aloha.

...90 people die from a terrorist bomb in Kabul, and I don't see any headlines equivalent to the UK terrorist events.

There must be a difference between the two groups of victims, but other than being dead I can't find it.  Don't the innocent Afghan victims deserve just as much sympathy as the English victims?

TrumpTweet: ..at least seven dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says "no reason to be alarmed."...

...in response to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn. "there can be no justification for the acts of these terrorists, and I am quite clear that we will never let them win nor will we allow them to cower our city or Londoners....  Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. No reason to be alarmed.."

I wonder if that TrumpTweet would be different if the mayor's name was Nigel Buckingshire?
