Donald Trump got a $100k fee to speak at a state university lecture. The school says private donors paid Trump Jr.'s speaking fee.

The event was sponsored by private donors, such as Ryan LLC...Trump's $100,000 speaking fee is coming from a tax advisory firm owned by Ryan, according to UNT. Ryan used political and business connections to land the real estate executive as a speaker.
Who paid to rent the AT&T auditorium it was held at?

The article says he promoted his father's "nationalism" message. Did he have an original thought of his own to share? Never mind, I couldn't care less.

    He should offer, if he had an ounce of personal integrity and honor. But he won't because he's the dauphin of the Trump family, whose name is now practically synonymous with the dubious art of grifting.

    From everything I've seen and heard of him, Junior doesn't exactly appear to be the brightest bulb in the chandelier. So, I'm not sure about the quality of personal wisdom he could impart to college students.

    As for Texas taxpayers, well, a fool and his money are soon parted. If they object to this sort of fiduciary self-dealing amongst the political class at their expense, then they need to take a more active role in their own governance, and run and elect a better class of candidates to public office.

    knowing you delivered something of value and substance and importance.

    That's pretty valuable, all the more so because you weren't paid to say it.

    Pretty sure all Donnie does when he looks in the mirror is check to make sure his hairline isn't heading for the hills and he won't have to get Dad to teach him the secret of the Donald Trump hair swoop and swirl.

    And like you, I'm more than happy to freely share with others my knowledge, experience and expertise in my field, such as it is. Frankly, I feel an obligation to do so, and consider such requests to be a mark of one's professional success and public reputation. I'm flattered whenever I'm asked.

    I'd never think of asking for anything other than perhaps reimbursement of my travel expenses, if it involves a trip to one of the neighbor islands. Even then, I've occasionally borne those costs myself if the group requesting me is a nonprofit community organization of otherwise limited means.

    There's nothing wrong with offering an honorarium to someone to address a private function or public event. But such honoraria should be reserved for those individuals of sufficient public stature and accomplishment who are truly noteworthy, rather than offered to a mere celebrity with some level of public notoriety.

    And in that regard, Donald Trump Jr. sure ain't one of the former.

    It is not unheard of for family members to be paid to give speeches and what not. This does not sound all that unusual.

    ... that family member in question is quite obviously all meringue and no filling.

    That said, my primary objection here isn't that Donald Trump, Jr. was invited to speak at this public university, per se -- although were I a student or faculty member, I'd consider it to be a colossal waste of everyone's time given the speaker's lack of gravitas and substance.

    Rather, I take serious issue with the school offering and giving Trump, Jr. a $100,000 honorarium from public funds to do so, when from my perspective, the man's only practical accomplishments in life are being:

    • The scion of a wealthy family, whose father who was elected president last year under increasingly questionable circumstances; and

    • A potential material witness -- and perhaps one of the targets? -- in a major federal espionage and fraud investigation.

    Were I a Texas taxpayer, I'd strenuously object to this questionable use of public monies, especially as a form of unnecessary largesse to the wealthy.

    former president obama's wife recieves 200,000-usd as a speaking fee. when chelsea clinton was doing speaking engagements she recieved 65,000-usd for a ten minute talk followed by twenty minutes of general questions. it's all `bribery by proxy' in my opinion.

    It's illegal.  What is the quid pro quo that you are alleging the University of Missouri received by paying attention speaking fee to CC and how was it accomplished, given that neither of her parents held office at the time?
