The Real Winners and Losers of the 2016 Election

Who really won this election?

The politics of fear. If you are Muslim, Gay, foreign born, female, African American or Hispanic, fear is in your future for the next four years.

If you are old, sick or dependent on social security and Medicare, fear is in your future for the next four years should you live so long. [More...]

America got the man it elected, together with his Septuagenarian cronies who were even worse stewards of freedom and civil liberties when they had a little bit of power.

Now, together they will run roughshod over your civil liberties, your freedom, your constitutional rights and your personal health choices in every conceivable way. Any economic prosperity they generate will not be shared with you, unless you are already wealthy.

Yes, America will be the laughing stock of the world. And, no, Mexico will never, ever pay for that wall. But you will.

Americans could have avoided this.

Make no mistake, he will be Your President. Denial hashtages are useless.

With that, I'm going silent on this election. I have no interest in unity, in trying to build a new progressive alliance in the Democratic party, or pretending this is anything but the disaster it is. I have no interest in analyzing the loss or in playing a blame game. It is what it is. It's over, it's final and it's horrible.

Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence”

To quote the late George Bernard Shaw: (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by Donald from Hawaii on Wed Nov 09, 2016 at 06:57:36 PM EST
"Democracy is a device that insures we shall be governed no better than we deserve."

Irony is lost upon those people who for the better part of four decades have never failed to convey to us their unshakable belief in so-called traditional values, yet who by their frenzied support of an amoral ratbag have summarily reduced the core essence of those values to a mere five words:

    "Grab 'em by the pu$$y."

I, too, have no interest in reconciling with people who said about and did horrible things to their fellow Americans in the interest of the skeazeball to whom they've professed their allegiance.

Nor will I ever lift a finger to assist or cooperate with that chinchilla-haired ratbag who was elected last night. Republicans have long endeavored to rule. Now we'll see if they're actually capable of governing.

They have sowed the wind, and we shall reap the whirlwind.

    'The Latino vote' didn't overwhelm Trump, (5.00 / 1) (#12)

because we're not all the same

    - John Paul Brammer, The Guardian, 11/9/2016

The Latino vote is a conservative bogeyman. Conspiracy theories abound about Democrats letting Latinos into the country to boost their numbers. It's a ridiculously one-dimensional view that doesn't reflect reality.

But the rote script Democrats read from when talking about Latinos isn't proving to be realistic either. Tim Kaine being able to speak Spanish didn't seem to get Latinos amped up, as the Democrats thought it would, and the idea that Latino voters are automatic gets or, more cynically, cheap dates for the DNC doesn't seem to hold water either in light of the exit polls.

"isms", and assorted hate, are not the reasons that all those rural white people voted for Trump, it is trade agreements and loss of good jobs, such as those in coal mines.  Although, the priority of the day, for some Trump supporters, is for Trump to put Mrs. Clinton in jail and take health care away as fast as he can.  And, of course, Comey had little to do with it, since he is just a neutral party.  Just don't put anything into that Trump/Pence lawn sign at his home.

get with the program.  This is the Trump era, illusion and hyperbole are the coin of the realm. It is all fake or fabricated.  All for the common good, of course.  We need a businessman to run the country like a business.

predominantly white neighborhood in Philadelphia, there were Nazi symbols and slogans painted, some including references to Tr*mp. It is also the anniversary of Kristallnacht. This is not some photoshopped b/s or urban legend; it happened overnight after the election.

Nazi groups and the KKK love him though. They feel validated and legitimized by them.
