Court Sets Final Deadlines in George Zimmerman Case

Judge Debra Nelson has issued this order setting final deadlines for the immunity hearing and trial of George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman's legal team released this statement saying that it raised $28,000. in the past three weeks and can now retain some experts. It needs much more, and soon, as the deadline for disclosing experts is March 27.

Also today, the judge in the Shellie Zimmerman perjury case denied a motion to dismiss alleging that State's Attorney Angela Corey lacked authority to prosecute the case: [More...]

[Zimmerman's attorney] argued that because his client's testimony happened in Seminole County – not Jacksonville, where Corey was elected - she does not have jurisdiction.

Prosecutor John I. Guy contends that the executive order by Gov. Rick Scott, naming Corey special prosecutor, authorized her to investigate and prosecute "all matters pertaining to the death of Trayvon Martin."...The judge sided with the state. She said that because the statements being challenged happened at a bond hearing for Trayvon's killer, the governor's executive order was broad enough.

Zimmerman's lawyer says she will be acquitted because she did not commit perjury. He said, "it's all about the specificity." I think he's right, for these reasons.

qualify for a court-appointed attorney (experts paid by the government) absent the defense fund?  And, if so, wouldn't it be prudent on his part to take advantage of both?  Seems unwise to forgo experts due to lack of funds when faced with 2nd degree murder charge.

    Wouldn't that eliminate (1.00 / 1) (#2)
