There was a lot of action in the war against drug cartels today. The Mexican Army killed 11 suspected cartel members in a shootout in Valle Hermoso, 30 miles south of Matamoros, which in turn is south of Brownsville, Texas. The shootout was part of operation "Noreste," which according to the Mexican Military, "seeks to generate a climate of peace, trust and harmony for the population."

The Mexican Navy captured one of the founding members of the Zetas, Raul Lucio Hernandez Lechuga, aka "El Lucky."

Colombia extradited former Norte Valle Cartel chief Ramon Quintero Sancelmente to the U.S. [More...]

Quintero was indicted in 2008 in Florida, arrested in Ecuador in 2010, extradited to Colombia, and today, sent to the U.S. Here's the Treasury Department chart of his organization and description of his activities and associates.

in Mexico too..."peace, trust, & harmony", as in war is peace, suspicion is trust, inequality is harmony.

Since poor Mx. is just a puppet of the US, this is just MORE WH bullshit. I live in Mx., have for over 20yrs, US lusts after the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that the MX, so-called 'Drug Lords' have and they want to get the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ folks, nothing to see here, move along.

It's a shame, I live 6 hours from Matamoros and we used to go there once a month. I wouldn't call it a beautiful city, but it was a cool place to go that was close. To get way from America, and take a in another culture that is beautiful and more importantly, different.

Last time I was there, the city had a dark cloud over it, we went just over the border, no more exploring or wondering off. There's a different tone and Americans are no longer welcomed, not hated, but just a different attitude.

I have been there in probably 3 years and it sucks. This stupid war on habits and people is ruining so many lives and just making the world a more dangerous and uglier place to habitat.

Fort Rucker is very busy these days too, you can't help but notice. I suppose going after the cartels ties in directly with our War on Drugs. Last month when we were out with friends on the post one of our Italian friends got a hard time for not being able to speak Spanish well at all by two students from Colombia. In the Army everyone's last name is on their uniform, and you can go to a bar in uniform on post. They pointed to his name tag, let him know he was failing his ancestors on some level.

They were here learning to fly Hips, which is a Russian helicopter that is an excellent one and many U.S. military wish they knew how to fly (like my husband for one, he was very jealous). We didn't even know though that anyone could learn how to fly a Russian helicopter on a U.S. military post.
