I hope that this DWTS's result gives you some peace of mind for the holidays.

If the network picks people that have a separate base of popular or sympathetic support like a Betty White or a Bristol Palin, you will get warped results.

On the other hand, if the network picks professional dancer/performers like a Jennifer Gray or a Nicole Scherzinger, they are inserting "ringers" into the mix.

It really isn't a proper contest, it is "entertainment."

Actually Nicole was the only one I made an effort to see, though I had seen "Baby" in that old movie.

Nicole is a stone cold fox.

That Jennifer Gray appeared to be so intent on re-creating a role from  her youth. Most people in their 50's have moved on. If she really was dancing last night with a ruptured disc, she's an idiot to boot.

Another gem from camp Palin today as Mama Bear said we have to stand by our allies in North Korea!. Duh.

Yup. This was on Fox. She also spoke about China yesterday and said Obama shouldn't complain about China's lowering and manipulating their currency, and lowering our dollar would hurt, etc.

The stupidity and ignorance of her remarks is spellbinding. She is actually defending China's communist hard line position on manipulating their currency to game ours. Palin obviously lacks a mere basic 101 understanding of economics.

The GOP on Obama's position is the same in opposing China's ruthless behavior regarding currrency and believes we should strongly oppose China's policies and stop them.

Junk flies out of Palin's mouth at an alarming rate.  She is now trying to use DWTS for her own political advantage and get all the free PR  and public validation it offers. China uber alles!! O'Donnell the Witch is next in this comedy?

    "Haters" has been the word (5.00 / 2) (#17)
by MO Blue on Wed Nov 24, 2010 at 08:10:18 AM EST
used to discount and dismiss descent and criticism since at least the Bush administration. It IIRC started out as a Republican tactic used to diminish any person or opinion in opposition and to stifle debate. If this tactic had not been so eagerly picked up by some people on the Democratic side (i.e. Obama haters), I would be more critical of Bristol's usage. It unfortunately has become a standard tactic and one used often by certain commenters here on TL. Not much on IARIYAR or IARIYAD.

"Haters" was probably simmering in the culture well before the year 2000.  Since then it's popped up in more than a few different cultural manifestations.  I think that "haters" usage by red/blue fans/enemies is only a small part of that.

    Interesting information (5.00 / 1) (#20)

In the political arena, I first noticed its usage to discount issue related criticism during the Bush II administration.

Regardless of its origination, I dislike the tactic and firmly believe that it is used to stifle any real debate of important issues. I would also prefer that criticism of this tactic be universally applied. IOW it does not become acceptable when people or a party you like use it and scorned only when used by people or a party you dislike employ the tactic.

Sarah Palin reportedly lobbied producers of the ABC hit show "Dancing With The Stars" on Thursday night to bring failed Tea Party-backed U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell on as a contestant to the next season of the program.

An executive at ABC reportedly signaled that O'Donnell taking to the dancing floor might be an idea worth considering. The network insider also took a shot at the conservative favorite's infamous "I'm not a witch" campaign ad, which she released during her general election fight against now-Democratic Senator-elect Chris Coons.

"O'Donnell would fit right in," said the source to PopEater. "She certainly would be so controversial that the amount of press attention and buzz the show would get would be huge. Plus, you know they would make her dance in a witch's hat with a broomstick." link

Palin and her political proteges are on the march.

If ABC allows DWTS to become a political game of opportunism they will sink the show.

The only reason this show has a big audience is because it has been authentic. Put politics, right, left. or center into into a pure entertainment weekly event and it will die.

ABC loves the controversial aspects as it increases interest and veiwers, but this will ultimately boomerang.

And yes by now I think we're all nuts to be so interested in this, but it's really about gaming the system and this is Palin's territory.
