I'm on the press bus to Invesco. The crowds are huge. Security lines way too long.

It wasn't too bad getting in. Speeches are going on. I'm in the MSM press filing area. No laptop, just my iPhone. I hope Big Tent or TChris are around to fix typos . If not, please try to guess what I meant to write.

    you know what would be awesome is if at the end of his speech, Obama would start saying "I can do no more, I cain't do no more..." and then Biden rushes out and puts a cape around his shoulders.

    Suddenly when it looks as if Obama has collapsed from speech exhaustion, he's crumpled under the cape and Biden holds him, shielding him from the demanding fans, suddenly he undrapes the cape and comes back for more...

    ENCORE.

    Let us know if any of that happens! And even if it doesn't I suspect it will be QUITE a show.

    If, at the end of his speech, Obama would whip off his glasses and his clothes would pop off and his Superhero costume would be underneath...  And while the music crescendos, he points his arms towards the people in the nose-bleed section and he flies around the stadium with his cape fluttering behind him!

    That would be totally awesome!  

    Unfortunately, he doesn't wear glasses and he's a mere mortal, just like the rest of us, so it ain't gonna happen.  

    But we can dream.  ;-)

    cos their frat boy antics and drunken stupidity kind of turned me off but there were some great pop songs by Westerberg. And that song popped into my head when I saw the headline and hasn't left since.

    By the way WESTERBERG is a republican (or at least he used to be and a very gungho one at that.)
    ALSO in the past he has made very objectionable, racist comments. The only reason I keep their tunes around is because the rest of his bandmates weren't as problematic politically or racially. But don't get me wrong I surely don't think them genius or some Elvis Costello (who also made a big racial slur, but only one and he's not a repub, he's a brit/DEM lover who sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Hillary Clinton this year at her birthday party!) This entire thread has veered like mad [oooops].

    ...I spent enough time around the 'Mats to know that the only one of them anywhere near being a frat boy was Paul.  The rest were definately drunks--and proud of it at the time.

    that the convention was held at the Pepsi Center, and the speech is at Invesco Field.

    How long before this trend moves to federal buildings?

    Will someday the Capitol building become the Microsoft Pavilion?  Will the White House become Google House?

    The locals didn't want to cave completely to the corporate naming, so the official name is Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.

    But the locals ( and even Invesco execs) call it the Diaphragm.

    'Cause, if so, we should take a look at the indictment of Houston US District Judge Samuel Kent, for sex crimes.  He was "indicted Thursday on charges of abusive sexual contact and aggravated sexual abuse, making him the first federal judge to be charged with federal sex crimes and the first in Texas to be indicted in recent history."  I have not found a link to the indictment, and the article is not clear as to how many counts, so I don't think there's any way of predicting his sentencing exposure, other than to say it's likely not going to be a fine and probation.  I'd suspect he's looking at some hard time.

    It's sad when things like this happen - not because the grand jury decided to hand up an indictment, but rather when the behavior of an adult gets so out of hand that it comes to this.

    I just got a text from a friend who's waiting in a security line. She said she saw a tonne of fireworks shells being set up a half-mile away from the stadiums.

    Looks like they're going all out to make this a celebration. Considering the historical aspect of this day, both literally and figuratively, it sure is worthy of fireworks.

    I just wonder who's in charge of the bill.

    And speaking of party... calling all Donna Brazille and Roland Martin fan; I wanna hear ya say "Woot! Woot!"

    This is the main reason why this overblown event is wrong.  It is subsidized by us, including many Americans who are in economic trouble these days.

    I no longer am checking off that box on my tax form.

    Thanks CC for sharing. It really would have been presumptuous of me to believe that those 1.5 million donors to the Obama campaign who've willing contributed $5, $50, even $150 every week were funding this grand party. How silly of me.

    Hopefully a true media organization worth its salt, if one even exists in this day, will dig into the public records -- with a FOIA if necessary -- for the total budgets and expenses of both conventions. Heck, maybe a breakdown of every expense, including staging and publicity.

    how they manage to not show the "temple" when the speakers are talking?   What kind of lens can give that kind of "no perspective" view that makes it look like the podium is right in front of the wall, rather than a good 10-15 yards away from it?

    they plan to roll in a red brick wall (like they have in all the comedy clubs) when the
    Big O gets off a few good ones at McCain's expense.
    And then they might be rolling in a Green Screen
    when he talks about the future so the background can feature a group of supporters from other planets provided by George Lucas. At the end they'll roll in a Red Carpet for Obama to exit stage.

    So if you're into him, you might want to tune in earlier than that. I don't want you to miss it if you're a Gore fan. :)

    Until then, I suppose it will be lots of live musical performances with a few minor speeches thrown in to make it look as a legitimate and 'presidential' as possible, and not a political Super Bowl half-time show.

    Earlier, will.i.am and John Legend performed.

    Oprah Winfrey and a busload of Hollywood stars are in attendance at the stadium too. Wonder if there are bratwursts and beer stands too.

    I wonder what air. temp is like there? Looks really sunny, so it must be pretty warm.
