D.C. Madam Convicted, Rob Lowe's Nanny Tells All

No surprise here -- the D.C. Madam was convicted today on all counts. The Government asked she go directly to jail, the Judge said no and allowed her to remain on bond pending sentencing.

Another secret revealed: What Rob Lowe's nanny is really claiming: he groped her. The cross-complaint the nanny filed, through her lawyer, who else but Gloria Allred, is here.
Unless she has a videotape, it sounds like a bunch of he said - she said to me. Most of the claims are labor law related -- Allred says the nanny was an employee not an independent contractor and because the Lowes employed more than 5 people, the nanny was entitled things like 30 minute meal breaks and she didn't get them, as well as other legal protections. Lots of sexual harassment allegations, none involving sex. She also wants damages because Mrs. Lowe walked around naked.

Rob Lowe tried to preempt her and blunt the impact of her claims by writing a blog post at HuffPo, showing blogs are the new wave of press release.

Lowe said the nanny was trying to blackmail him and his wife for $1.5 million. The nanny's lawsuit alleges her emotional damages and doctor and shrink bills over his reaching into her pants and other misdeeds are $50,000. She's also seeking punitive damages.

Hopefully the nanny isn't a young, pretty, white blonde or we'll be subjected to her and Gloria on cable for days.

were on the today show this morning. 7 minutes. I just watched the clip. Allred didn't let her get a word in other than "um" -- and hogged the whole thing, shrilly saying how brave. Pathetic. I'm not even going to link to it.

How does a nanny get meal breaks? (none / 0) (#1)

The job doesn't really work that way. What are the parents supposed to do? Arrange for another person to drop by and take care of their child for 30 minutes every day?

All that stuff is spelled out, though... (none / 0) (#7)

...and if she is considered an employee and not an independent contractor and if you work six consecutive hours (or whatever it is) and you are required to give a break, then you're required to give a break.

Please spare us. I'd rather listen to Roland Martin and I'm pretty tired of him by now.

I'm also tired of Roland and his "objective" analysis. If they'd just admit that he's an Obama supporter, I'd be fine with him. He seems like a nice guy but he is not impartial.

Gloria has always driven me nuts.

with losers all around. My first thought when I saw Lowe's preemptive post was "isn't he the guy who had a sex scandal that almost ruined his career?"  So I was very skeptical of his pre-emptive move.  But the nanny's story doesn't add up either.  Hopefully, this story will get no real coverage.

from the trauma of seeing Mrs. Lowe nekkid?  Really?

I'd call that stupendously bad lawyering by Allred to allow that in there.  Totally cancels the nanny's credibility, even if you could believe the rest of it.

Anyone who hires Gloria Allred loses credibility, IMO.  Supposedly, she quit twice only to beg for her job back both times.  Yeah, that sounds like someone who was sexually assaulted and harassed.  And how ridiculous to include the claims related to his wife walking around the house naked.  It's her house.  The fact that you have domestics working in your home doesn't mean that it's sexual harassment to be naked in your own house.

Gloria couldn't stop talking about how "brave" she was to stand up to this rich and famous man.  Give me a break.  If she were brave, she would have reported a sexual assault to the police, and not extorted the guy for a million bucks instead.

a friend of mine from college went to high school with Rob Lowe and we all once went sailing for a week-end geez I'm guessing 1985 off the Channel Islands. Rob was exceptionally nice and let's just say nudity was not a problem then either. Neither were other accruements but I am incriminating myself. Oh to be 20 again, I might like Obama then.

...for about two months in the late 90's, when he was attached to direct and star in a screenplay I'd optioned to Universal.  One day, during a story meeting at a well known restaurant, and while he was in the middle of telling me the nuances of one of his script notes, he took off his shoes and held them up.  As if on cue, a heavyset African-American guy walked up, took Rob's loafers and walked away.  "I'm getting my shoes shined", he said, then continued with his story point without missing a beat.

    I love Hollywood.

reminded me of Robert, an eldery African-American gentleman in the finest sense of that word who had a slight limp and always a sweet smile, who shined our shoes when I worked at Goldman Sachs.

Perks at Goldman Sachs (San Francisco) were modest than those at NY headquarters but I got cabs to and from work (after 7 PM), a hot breakfast, coffee, soft drinks and water, and dinner again if I stay past 7 PM. We could bring our dry cleaning to work but we were charged for it. Goldman also paid our health club dues.
