Hillary Clinton's Speech

Update: Here's the transcript.

****

With Bill and Chelsea beaming, but seated rather than standing by her side, looking fabulous and happy, Hillary Clinton takes the stage.

She tells New Hampshire "Thank you. I listened to you and in the process I found my own voice. "

"Let's give America the kind of comeback New Hampshire has just given me."

"We are in it for the long run."

She gives specifics and talks about issues, not just promises of hope and change.

"Tomorrow, we will get up, roll up our sleeves" and keep going.

"We came back tonight because you spoke loudly and clearly. You want this campaign to be about you. Because there is so much at stake for our country."

She thanks the New Hampshire team "that never faltered one minute." The crowd cheers wildly. She thanks the young people of New Hampshire who voted their hearts and their minds.

She says she respects the other Democratic candidates: Dodd and Biden, Richardson, Kucinich, Edwards and Obama.

She is "going out there with millions of people at my side who believe as I do that this country is worth fighting for. Thank you and G-d Bless You." Wild cheers.

Congratulations, Hillary -- and to the voters of New Hampshire, who moved past the most biased and unfair media coverage ever to vote their own minds.

Mitt Romney seems like he's just throwing money at this campaign, so he's playing around, but I don't see how Obama or Edwards think this is a game. Seems like she's trying to fight back in some supposed generational battle against Gen Y, saying that's she's the "serious, experienced" candidate as opposed to some whippersnapper. Tell me if I'm wrong in how I see that.

How about when are we getting our of Iraq? Was she specific about that? How about national healthcare? Specifics? Anything about Sibel Edmonds? How about turning around the laws that her husband shepherded that allowed the media monopolies we now endure?

Too bad the kid in the house switched to Nova on public television. I guess they'll print all those specifics in the paper tomorrow.

Or any of them for that matter. I think we the people have been given a number of chances to see the policies of each candidate as close as they'll allow and so part of me wonders why this is no longer about policy. This isn't an Obama thing or Edwards thing or a Clinton thing, or just a Democratic thing, it's all the candidates. It's just gone back to the horserace, the who's up, who's down of politics that I thought we had agreed as a people was BAD.

It was obvious that McCain was reading his, but I felt her delivery was off especially coming after the Obama speech.  I am an Edwards supporter and IMHO I think this thin gis going to go all the way to Denver.  If Clinton and Obama split the Feb 5 primary delegates and Edwards stays in the race and continues to gain enough votes to earn delegates there may not be a single candidate that reaches the 2025 delegates needed for the nomination.  In this scenario Edwards is the King/Queen Maker.

by Dadler on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 01:08:01 PM EST
...perhaps I'm the only one who found the "...and I found my voice" line to ring hollow.  It strains credulity, at the least, to believe that between a caucus and a primary, in two tiny states which in no way represent the diversity of the nation as a whole, she somehow found her "voice.  Her "give the America the kind of comeback NH has just given me..." is a much more honest and accurate plea.  I listened to you, I tweaked a few things, you voted for me at a little higher rate, and in this ridiculous primary system, that runs counter to the democratic interests of the nation, this means I'm back in the race.

At least to me.  But I agree this is good for the party and the race.  Don't need any coasters.

I fail to see how it is hollow.

I found the way to show who I am - I found my voice.

I think she found her voice during the debate when she refused to be run roughshod over.  That is what she meamt and that is anything but hollow.

reminds me of the same thing. i found it corny at best, my wife loved it.  My guess is that it will be great fodder for the late night hosts for months to come.  and will be used prominently in republican ads when they are distorting her record.

At least the race is competitive and hopefully it will force a real discussion on an issue, any issue really.  Because lord knows I have had enough of the "better america" routine.  What does that mean anyway?  How will we have more jobs and more money and better schools and health care and blah blah blah.  I am sitting through these debates and the general non specific answers are disheartening at best.

How about a debate that has the moderator asking, tell me how you make americans happier, after all there are 300 million of us.
