Prosecutors to Appeal Schapelle Corby Sentence: They Want Life

I wish I was making this up, but I'm not. It's mind-boggling. Prosecutors in the Schapelle Corby case have announced they will appeal her 20 year sentence for bringing 9 pounds of pot into Bali on the grounds that it is not severe enough. They contend she should have received a life sentence.

Prosecutor Ida Bagus Wiswantanu said he believed the judge had erred and should have given Corby a life sentence.

"For us justice is life for anyone who imports that much marijuana,'' he told reporters.

An Australian expert on Indonesia's legal system agreed the sentence was unusually light by Indonesian standards.

For those of you who are curious about the graphic, I designed it last night. There are some TL readers who don't care about high-profile crime cases of the day - even though politics or injustice is involved in almost all of them. Beginning with our Michael Jackson coverage, each of these posts is accompanied by a graphic that's unique to the case and TalkLeft, so that disinterested readers can immediately recognize the subject matter and scroll on by.

I get very tired of posted comments saying "who cares" about this or that case. I do, or I wouldn't be writing about it. Judging from our entry page stats, so are thousands of other people. So with the graphic, there's no reason to leave these comments, you can easily pass over the post.

    at least for now she seems to have an entire country behind her. lets hope they keep up this fight and that there is a continued venue for debate
